About

The Centre for Vedic and Yogic Sciences (CVYS) is dedicated to advancing integrative research, education, and experiential learning rooted in India’s Vedic and Yogic heritage. Anchored in the intellectual depth of Sanskrit texts, philosophical traditions, and Yogic knowledge systems, the Centre promotes a transformative dialogue between ancient metaphysical thought and contemporary scientific paradigms.

CVYS seeks to rediscover and reinterpret timeless insights from the Vedas, Upaniṣaṣ ds, Sāṅkhya, Yoga Sūtras, and related traditions through the lens of modern science, consciousness studies, and interdisciplinary scholarship. By connecting Vedic cosmology with quantum theory, philosophy of mind, neuroscience, and psychology, the Centre fosters a holistic understanding of reality rooted in both inner experience and critical inquiry.

Drawing from concepts such as Brahman, Puruṣaṣ , Prakṛtṛi, and Chidākāśa, CVYS explores emerging scientific discussions on quantum consciousness, positioning awareness not merely as a brain-based phenomenon but as a fundamental aspect of existence. This integrative framework encourages students and scholars to approach knowledge as both analytical understanding and spiritual realization.

Aligned with the vision of NEP 2020 and Viksit Bharat 2047, the Centre aspires to cultivate ethical awareness, emotional balance, intellectual creativity, and global leadership in Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS).

Vision Statement

The Centre for Vedic and Yogic Sciences (CVYS) envisions emerging as a premier national institution dedicated to the systematic study, preservation, and integrative advancement of India’s foundational knowledge systems. Anchored in the principles of NEP 2020 and aligned with the IKS Division’s mandate, the Centre aspires to cultivate a research-intensive environment that harmonizes classical śāstric wisdom with contemporary scientific inquiry. By bringing together Vedic cosmology, Yogic sciences, Indic epistemologies, linguistic sciences, and consciousness studies under a unified academic framework, CVYS aims to re-establish India’s intellectual heritage as a vibrant, living knowledge tradition. The Centre seeks to develop new paradigms of research, education, and experiential learning that bridge the inner sciences of consciousness with modern methodologies, fostering original scholarship, interdisciplinary innovation, and societal well-being. Through rigorous study, immersive practice, and collaborative inquiry, CVYS will position Hansraj College as a national leader in the renaissance of Vedic and Yogic sciences.

Objectives

  1. Advance Integrative and Interdisciplinary Research

CVYS will promote deep, cross-disciplinary research connecting core Vedic and Yogic knowledge systems with contemporary scientific domains such as quantum physics, cognitive science, psychology, astronomy, mathematics, ecology, linguistics, and philosophy of mind. The Centre will encourage the development of innovative theoretical models rooted in śāstric reasoning and pramāṇaṇ -based methodologies, facilitating a dialogue between traditional knowledge systems and modern scientific paradigms.

  2. Strengthen Sanskrit Textual Scholarship and Philological Competence

The Centre will cultivate rigorous training in Sanskrit and śāstric hermeneutics to enable authentic engagement with foundational texts including the Vedas, Upaniṣaṣ ds, Yoga Sūtras, Sāṃkhya Kārikā, Chandas Śāstra, Śulba Sūtras, Āyurveda Saṃhitās, the grammar of Pāṇiṇni, and treatment of combinatorics in Pingala’s works. The objective is to build textual competence, promote philological research, prepare critical translations, and encourage comparative analysis across knowledge traditions.

  3. Develop NEP-Aligned, Innovative Educational Programs

CVYS will create structured academic offerings, certificate courses, minor programs, interdisciplinary modules, experiential curriculum, and research-based pedagogy, that integrate śāstric knowledge with contemporary academic streams. Emphasis will be on inquiry-driven learning, cognitive and ethical development, and the cultivation of holistic intellect, aligning Vedic and Yogic sciences with modern educational aspirations.

  4. Create Infrastructure for Experiential and Embodied Learning

In recognition of the experiential dimension of Yogic sciences and Vedic knowledge systems, the Centre will develop dedicated spaces for meditation, Yogic practice, Vedic chanting, svādhyāya traditions, and dialogical methods such as vāda, kathā, and samvāda. This will provide students and scholars with immersive opportunities to internalize and test the principles discussed in texts bridging theoretical study with lived experience.

  5. Promote Research Dissemination, Publications, and Capacity Building

The Centre will support research outputs through monographs, translations, policy papers, digitized resources, and interdisciplinary publications. It will organize annual conferences, thematic lecture series, workshops, and scholar-in-residence programs to foster a vibrant research ecosystem. Special emphasis will be placed on building student capacity, encouraging early research exposure, and cultivating the next generation of IKS scholars.

  6. Build Collaborative Academic and Institutional Networks

CVYS will establish partnerships with Indian universities, research bodies, traditional knowledge institutions, monastic learning centres, and international organizations engaged in the study of consciousness, philosophy, ancient sciences, and linguistics. These collaborations will facilitate joint research, visiting faculty exchanges, cross-institutional workshops, and global dialogue on the relevance of Vedic and Yogic sciences in the 21st century.

  7. Contribute to National Educational and Knowledge Development

Aligning with India’s aspiration to emerge as a global knowledge leader, the Centre aims to integrate indigenous scientific, philosophical, and spiritual traditions with contemporary research challenges and societal needs. Through outreach, research translation, and evidence-based insights from Vedic and Yogic sciences, CVYS seeks to contribute to national development goals, cultural revitalization, and a deeper understanding of consciousness, ethics, and sustainable living.
