Before the appointment, he had served as a Lecturer in the Faculty of Life Sciences, IAMR-Ghaziabad as well as the School of Agricultural Sciences, K.R. Mangalam University, Sohna, Gurugram. His educational qualifications include a Ph.D. (Life Sciences) from the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), Jawaharlal Nehru University, and an M.Sc. (Botany) from the very reputed Department of Botany, University of Delhi, New Delhi, India. In addition, he is a Lifetime member of the Indian Phytopathological Society and Delhi University Botanical Society.
His primary research interests include (i) the development of transgenics and their biotechnological applications in cutting-edge areas, (ii) the effect of herbicides on plant microbiome, (iii) fungicidal application of agrochemicals, and (iv) the application of nanotechnology in plant protection and alleviating non-biological stresses. To date, Dr Mehta (h-index 18) has published more than 120+ research, review articles, book chapters, and many awards. Recently, he is editing a Taylor and Francis book “Applications of Nanoscaled Platforms in Gene Delivery” along with many stalwarts in Nanotechnology.
