Padhaku Trip
(13th February, 2016)

The Love Week 2016 was concluded by a trip for Padhaku students from class 4th to 9th. The students visited the Delhi Zoo on 13th February' 16 and got an opportunity to know more about wildlife. It was an educational-cum- fun filled trip. The kids were overwhelmed at seeing animals like White Tiger, Lion. Giraffe, Emu, Deer, Jackal, etc. They also played games and had a nice time bonding with each other. This is how an entire week of spreading love came to an end.



Seminar On Organ Donation And Blood Donation Camp
(11th February, 2016)

"It takes more than pills to save a life." NSS Hans Raj was honoured to partner with Sasakawa India Leprosy Foundation to dwell upon the stigma and discrimination attached to leprosy on 11th February' 16, They performed a play to sensitize the youth and build an environment where we can be a part of the social upliftment of leprosy affected people. It highlighted the traditional prejudicial treatment against leprosy. Later that day, a seminar on Organ Donation was conducted in association with ORBO, AIIMS, Delhi to spread awareness about the need of pledging to donate organs. A Blood Donation Camp was also organised in association with BloodConnect and Red Cross Society from 10 30 AM to 4 30 PM in the college premises.



Awareness Regarding Transgenders
(10th February, 2016)

To help raise the visibility of transgender and gender non- conforming people and address the issues these communities face, NSS Hans Raj presented a play 'Tera Koi Rang Nahi' written and performed by Rudra, the Dramatics Society of PGDAV College on 10th February' 16. A generation ago, transgender Indians were widely regarded by society as deviants, as people unfit for dignified workplaces and as a disgrace to families. Despite an expansion in tolerance, transgenders still face discriminatory policies, taboos and hostile attitude. Our aim was to bring liberalism, altruism and compassion in the minds of not only our volunteers but the youth of the nation, at large.



Cattle and Stray Animals Feeding Drive
(9th February, 2016)

Every heart seeks to be loved, humans and animals alike. Keeping this in mind, NSS Hans Raj conducted a 'Cattle and Stray Animals Feeding Drive' on 9th February' 16 to spread the love and warmth through food. The volunteers collected the leftover food from the nearby PGs and their homes which was then used to feed these animals. We believe that there's no satisfaction greater than feeding the hungry.



Visit to Prabha School for Autistic Children
(8th February, 2016)

As part of the 'Love week' organised by NSS Hans Raj, a trip to a school for autistic children near Paharganj was scheduled on the 8th of February. There was a thorough interaction with the 35 differently abled children in the school. The aim of this interaction was to help our volunteers comprehend that the level of intellect and understanding of these children is no different than that of normal children. Spending time with these children enlightened our volunteers of the challenges faced by disabled children. This was the first step of ours in spreading the love!



Gandhi Fellowship Seminar
(5th February, 2016)

NSS Hans Raj organised a seminar on the Gandhi Fellowship on 5th Feb' 16. Gandhi Fellowship is an intensive 2- year residential program that helps talented young people develop the leadership skills essential to cause disproportionate positive change in the society. The Fellowship challenges these young people to support and partner with primary school headmasters to transform their schools to achieve the desired educational outcomes. In the process, the fellows discover their definite goals in life and how to go about converting their ideas and dreams into reality. It was an enriching experience for our volunteers who seemed very much interested in being a part of the program.



Awareness Session in Chandrawal
(25th January, 2016)

The Rural Development wing organised an awareness session in Chandrawal, an urban slum in the vicinity of the college that we've adopted, on 25th Jan' 16. We educated the people about the need to maintain cleanliness and hygiene. We went door-to-door listening to their problems and talking to them about the ills of alcoholism. The response was positive and almost everyone agreed to the fact that they must do their bit to keep their surroundings clean and stop their consumption of alcohol. It was an enriching experience for all our volunteers.



Republic Day Celebrations
(25th January, 2016)

To commemorate the 67th Republic Day, NSS Hans Raj organised a flag hoisting ceremony on 25th January' 16. With freedom in our minds, faith in our words, pride in our hearts and memories in our soul, we pledged to salute our motherland. Everyone assembled in the college ground and the whole atmosphere was full of patriotism. The NCC cadets marched smartly across the ground with tunes of 'Jai Hind' running in the background. The entire college pledged for a Rising, Empowered, Powerful, Ultimate, Beautiful, Lovely, Independent and Charming India.



Carton Boxes Placed As Dustbins
(20th January, 2016)

The Environment Wing carried out a major drive where the volunteers placed about 35 cartons in the North Campus, Delhi University on 20th Jan' 2016 . The area covered was from Vishwavidyalaya metro station to Sparks Mall. The idea was not only to spread awareness but to prove that a small initiative can bring about big changes. The dustbins were labelled and placed at crowded places. Moreover, the volunteers also got the opportunity to work at the ground level and interact with vendors, trying to understand their grievances. The efforts were highly appreciated by the on- lookers and students from other colleges. The volunteers also decided to monitor the these dustbins by revisiting the sites regularly. The vendors were extremely happy since the surroundings of their shops could now remain clean.

THE ROLE OF YOUTH IN NATION BUILDING

On the 19th of January 2016, the Honourable President of India, Dr. Pranab Mukherjee addressed students and the members of faculty in institutes of higher learning and probationary officers at civil service academies through a webcast on the role of youth in building the nation. The same was broadcast in Hans Raj College, an initiative taken by NSS Hans Raj, and was attended by our Principal, Dr.Rama and our NSS convenor, Dr.Baljeet Kaur. He described youth as those who have the potential to develop and harness disruptive technologies for the growth of the nation. His address was followed by representatives from IIT Gandhinagar, IIEST Shibpur, NIPER Hyderabad, among others giving their insights about the same. The discussion proved that the youth of the nation had more or less the same insight as that of the President. In a nutshell, this event provided the students of Hans Raj College with a lot to ponder on how they can contribute to the building of our very nation and how our country can become a superpower by harnessing the potential of our youth.



Vivekananda Jayanti Celebrations
(13th January, 2016)

NSS Hans Raj organised a speaker session on 13th January' 2016 on the account of Vivekananda Jayanti. It was an honour to have Mr. Indresh Kumar with us enlightening the audience on the topic, 'The India of Vivekananda's dreams'. A video was also screened about the life of the great man, Swami Vivekananda. Earlier that day, a quiz and a debate competition were also organised based on the life of Swami. The speaker session gave way to a light- hearted session of Qawwali by Shri Abdul Hamid Saabri and his group. The crowd was mesmerized by the Qawwali.



Distribution of woolens in Padhaku
(12th January, 2016)

The Padhaku wing utilised the money raised in the annual Diwali Mela of NSS Hans Raj to buy socks, caps, gloves and spectacles for the children.The kids coming from a poor locality did not have access to enough warm clothes. The socks, caps and gloves helped the children beat the cold. Since some of the kids were complaining of a poor eyesight, an eye specialist was consulted and spectacles were made for the kids accordingly.



Self Defence Workshop
(8th January, 2016)

NSS Hans Raj organised a seminar about the importance of self- defence in today's world. Self Defence is not only important for women but also for men. The guest speakers for the same were Mrs. Rekha Udit, the Chairperson of Women International Network, Nidhi Sharma, co-owner of Investors' Clinic and also a Hans Raj alumni and Prof. Ram Ji Lal Jangid, along with members of NIELET, Ministry of IT.Members of IDSO- Indian Dojang Sports Organization were present to demonstrate their Taekwondo skills. Mrs. Rekha Udit spoke about the various vocational training courses that have been launched in Hans Raj College. The event also flagged off a self- defence workshop from 9th Jan' 16 to 15th Jan' 16. 15th Jan' 16 i.e. the 68th Army Day was declared as the Civil Defence Day in Hans Raj College.A large number of people attended the workshop by the Taekwondo trainers which was a visual treat.



Cleanliness Drive in Chandrawal
(8th January, 2016)

The Rural Development wing fixed a meeting with the MCD officals of North Delhi Municipal Corporation (Civil Lines Zone) to aware them about the deplorable condition of lanes in Chandrawal.The MCD officials understood the concern and got the lanes cleaned.The slum dwellers were extremely happy as they no longer had to live in filthy surroundings.



Bag Donation Drive
(5th to 7th January, 2016)

A bag donation drive was organized by the Padhaku wing from 5th to 7th Jan' 16. Drop Boxes were put at various places in the college campus where students, teachers and non- teaching staff could donate bags.Some kids in Padhaku had been carrying worn out bags which were then replaced by new ones.The kids were extremely happy on receiving their new bags.



Winter Donation Drive
(17th December, 2015)

While everyone else is snuggling in their blankets, the Rural Development wing of NSS Hans Raj decided to spare a thought for those less fortunate than us. A week-long donation drive was conducted in college and the proceeds were then handed over to the rickshaw- pullers and the poor living on the footpaths. This step was taken to protect them from the harsh winters and it provided respite to those shivering in the cold nights.



Halloween Celebrations
(We Scare because We Care!)
(2nd November, 2015)

NSS Hans Raj added another golden chapter in it’s history of events on 2nd November’2015 following the trend of Halloween celebrations. The theme of the event was 'We Scare because We Care'. It aimed to spread awareness among the students about the ills of smoking, drug abuse and wastage of food. The LP was decorated with jack-o- lanterns and bats to give it the eerie feel. However, the fright was just enough to warn the students about the consequences of such activities. What attracted the crowd was the petrifying photo booth with stirring picture props for a perfect Halloween pose which also meant coming forward to support the noble cause.



Rashtriya Ekta Diwas Celebrations
(29th to 31st October, 2015)

As a mark of respect to the Iron Man of India, Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel, the NSS Centre decided to celebrate Rashtriya Ekta Diwas from 29th- 31st Oct' 15. NSS Hans Raj, in accordance with the guidelines of the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas organised three events, namely, a rangoli- making competition, a debating competition and an article writing competition, all on the theme of national integration and unity. The three best rangolis, the best debater and the best Hindi and English articles were awarded by the NSS Centre. In a nutshell, NSS Hans Raj commemorated the birth anniversary of one of the major architects of the Indian Republic and stalwarts of our freedom movement. Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, thus, succeeded in inculcating the importance of national integration and unity in the minds of the students.



Magic Show
(20th October, 2015)

On 20th of October, Padhaku had its last session for the semester. The major attraction of the day was a magic show conducted by Sushil Jaiswal, a student of the college. The kids really enjoyed the show, the best magic trick was the glowing smile on everyone's faces. The children danced, sang songs, recited poems and talked about what they felt; about the volunteers and also about their aspirations. It was a day of fun and frolic for all!



Diwali Mela
(16th October, 2015)

NSS Hans Raj organised its annual Diwali Mela. It was a grand affair with various competitions and food stalls. Beautiful handmade articles such as wall hangings, diyas, pen stands and bookmarks made by the volunteers were sold. The highlight of the Mela was the golgappa eating competition. It attracted a lot of attention with students rushing to participate. ‘Dedicate a song’ stall and ‘Dare to Propose’ excited the students even further. Everybody loved the cupcakes from the cupcake stall. A lot of girls were seen getting their hair braided into various colours. Delicious Bhelpuri from the Bhelpuri stall was also very tempting for all. Students played multiple rounds of the 'Lucky Seven' game. The proceeds from the Mela would be utilized for the kids in Padhaku. The event was successful in spreading smiles and giving the students a day off from studies.



Workshop on By-Stander Intervention
(15th October, 2015)

NSS Hans Raj organised a workshop on "By- Stander Intervention" in the college premises on 15 October' 2015 conducted in collaboration with CrowdGuard and HopeInU. It was an interactive session covering important agendas of how to de-escalate, when to intervene and how to stay safe. The message of respect, understanding the hurdles and overcoming the barriers, being alert, aware, intervening to help others and staying safe was spread through interactive videos and activities. This workshop was quite informative for everyone.



Collection Drive and Chuppi Todo Baithak
(7th October, 2015)

NSS Hans Raj organised a Saree and Paper Collection Drive in collaboration with Goonj on 7th October' 2015. The teachers and students donated in large numbers. Later the same day, there was a Chuppi Todo Baithak where people from 'Not Just A Piece of Cloth (NJPC)' by Goonj came to spread awareness on menstruation and to break the taboos surrounding it. They told us about how women use ash, gunny bags, rags, etc for menses. A lot of students initially unwilling to talk about it, took to the forefront by the end of the seminar. It was an enriching experience for all.



Gandhi Jayanti Celebrations
(1st October, 2015)

"Be the change you want to see in the world.", is what guides us to keep working hard. NSS Hans Raj left no stone unturned to celebrate the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation on 1st October' 2015. The day started off with a Cleanliness Drive by the volunteers. It was followed by a slogan writing competition on Gandhi and his ideologies. The highlight of the occasion was the play 'Moteram Ka Satyagraha' performed by the leading Hindi theatre group in the country, ASMITA THEATRE GROUP. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Ms. Radha Bhatt, the Chairperson of Gandhi Peace Foundation and the last disciple of Gandhi who has worked with the man himself. The Auditorium was full way beyond its capacity to witness Asmita perform. Ms Shilpi Marwaha and Mr Arvind Gaur promised to keep the love of theatre among the students alive by performing more often in Hans Raj College.



Cleanliness Drive
(1st October, 2015)

The Environment and Disaster Management Wing organised a Cleanliness Drive on 1st October'2015 in the college premises, as a part of the "Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan" , on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. The drive aimed at making the campus cleaner so as to reiterate the pledge for Swachh Bharat. Areas such as L.P ,Cafeteria, Botany Department , Chemistry Department , etc. were cleaned. Volunteers participated actively to ensure that all the areas were clean and made this drive a success.



Blood Donation Camp
(29th September, 2015)

The Health wing of NSS Hans Raj in collaboration with BloodConnect and AIIMS organised a Blood Donation Camp in the college on 29th September from 12 PM- 4 PM. The camp had a total of 103 donations. The doctors from AIIMS made sure that the weight and haemoglobin of the donors was within the normal range. All the donors were given refreshments after donation. There was an "I Donated Banner" where the students penned down their first thoughts after donation and also an Emergency Donor Database desk where everyone was told about BloodConnect and their 24*7 helpline. All the students pledged to help curb the problem of blood shortage in India.



Chandrawal Field Visit
(28th September, 2015)

The Rural Development wing of NSS Hans Raj organized a field visit to Chandrawal, an urban slum in North Campus on 28th September’2015. It was a platform for all the volunteers to identify the problems in that area and subsequently come up with their solutions. The volunteers got the opportunity to interact with the people at Chandrawal and identified problems such as poor waste disposal, no proper toilets, contaminated water, etc. The wing plans to take these issues up as their next agenda.



NSS Day
(24th September, 2015)

NSS was formally launched on 24th September'1969, the birth centenary year of the Father of the Nation. Therefore, 24th September is celebrated every year as NSS Day. We, at NSS Hans Raj made sure that we celebrate much more than a single day dedicated to service. The entire week was packed with events like Plantation Drive, Pink Chain Campaign on Cancer Awareness, visit to Chandrawal (an urban slum in North Campus) and Blood Donation Camp.



Pink Chain Campaign
(23rd September, 2015)

NSS Hans Raj organized an interactive session on Cancer Awareness (Breast, Cervical, Lung, etc.) within the college premises on 23rd September'2015. This was a part of Pink Chain Campaign's college programme. Pink Chain Campaign is dedicated to the women. It not only talks about spreading awareness regarding cancer but also promotes self- worth and feeling of self care for the protection of femininity and maintenance of a healthy disease- free journey. The presentation was done by Dr. Abhishek Shankar, the founder and Chief Co-ordinator of Pink Chain Campaign. It was a very informative session for the students and teachers alike.



Plantation Drive
(22nd September, 2015)

NSS Hans Raj organised a Plantation Drive on 22nd September'2015 in association with HELPIEZ group. The volunteers of Environment and Disaster Management wing participated with great zeal and enthusiasm in making the event a huge success. Around 80 saplings were planted throughout the campus. This further contributed towards making Hans Raj College, greener.

Visit to Mayur Vihar Slums
(17th September, 2015)

The Rural Development Wing made it a point to spread smiles among the underprivileged on the day of Ganesh Chaturthi. The proceeds collected during the Donation Drive were distributed among the families of construction workers living in slums in Mayur Vihar. A team of 20 volunteers distributed clothes, books, toys and shoes. Everyone was of the view that there couldn't have been a better way to celebrate the day.



Paper Collection Drive
(9th September, 2015)

The Environment wing of NSS Hans Raj organized a Paper Collection Drive on 9th September, 2015 to collect the pamphlets, posters, banners etc which were used excessively for the election campaigning. The Department was praised and its efforts were acknowledged to make the campus paper- less. The on- lookers were amazed with this drive and took pictures and video clips of the hard- working volunteers. It was a lesson for the campaigners who stopped throwing the pamphlets recklessly.



Teacher's Day Celebrations (PADHAKU)
(7th September, 2015)

A teacher isn't someone who shadows his/her students but someone who helps them create their own image. On 7th September ‘2015 Padhaku, the Education Wing of NSS Hans Raj College celebrated Teacher's Day. The students of Padhaku along with the volunteers were present there. The Principal, Dr. Rama and the Convener, Dr. Baljeet were present for the cake cutting ceremony. The Former NSS Convener, Mrs Monika also interacted with the students and taught them important life lessons. Every student made cards for their respective teachers and volunteers. The children danced, sang and recited beautiful poems. It was a fun-filled evening for the teachers and students alike.



Cleanliness Drive
(4th September 2015)

To carry forward the agenda of maintaining cleanliness, the Environment and Disaster Management organised another Cleanliness Drive on 4th September' 2015. The main objective of this drive was to spread awareness about the wastage of paper that occurs during political campaigns. The pamphlets and posters lying everywhere in college were collected and the candidates were requested to GO GREEN. The students participated actively in the entire process.



Teacher’s Day
(3rd September 2015)

A good teacher is a doctor who heals ignorance and an artist who inspires creativity. NSS Hans Raj honoured all its teachers by a seminar on ‘Student- Teacher Relationship’. The Chief Speakers for the event were Dr. Asha Joshi, Vice Principal, Shyama Prasad Mukherjee College and Mr. Alok Srivastava, a famous poet and ghazal writer. It was an amazing experience for the students and teachers to witness Mr. Srivastava’s ghazals live. It was made sure that the teachers felt extremely special by distributing bookmarks to them. It was a small gesture to reciprocate all that the students get from the teachers.



Good Touch, Bad Touch
(3rd September 2015)

On 3 september 2015, Padhaku organised an interactive session for its students to help them differentiate between good touch and bad touch. This session’s speaker was Aarti Jain, a second year Psychology student from Mata Sundari College for Women. The session began with the screening of a short video which taught the students what the danger areas were and what they should do when they are under duress. Different age groups were then tackled separately with groups of 5-10 year, 11-14 year and 15- 18 year olds. Each group was taught about sexual harassment, danger areas and people who they are supposed to approach when in danger. The older groups were taught about adolescence and puberty too. The session was very informative. It helped the students to identify sexual harassment and also gave them the courage to fight it.



Eye - Check Up
(2nd September 2015)

The Health wing organised a free Eye- Check Up in association with Titan Eye+ in the college premises on 2 September' 2015. The event was open for all. It started off at 12 20 PM and went on till 4 30 PM where 180 check ups were successfully done. An extra effort was made to provide the service to the kids of Padhaku. The teachers got additional discount offers from Titan Eye+ and Tanishq in lieu of Teacher's Day. It was a very successful event which fulfilled the objective of promoting the need to protect one of the most vital sense organs.



Anti-Malarial Fogging Drive
(28th August 2015)

The Environment and Disaster Management wing organised an anti- malarial and pesticide Fogging Drive on 28th August'2015 in collaboration with the Malaria Department, North Delhi Municipal Corporation. This step was taken due to the increasing incidents of dengue and malaria in the vicinity of the college. This was highly appreciated.



Donation Drive
(27th August 2015)

The Rural Development wing organised a Donation Drive at LP on 27th August 2015 from 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM. The students donated clothes, shoes, toys and stationery for the needy. The response was overwhelming. The proceeds were received in see- through bags which were labelled and segregated as per the age groups. Roughly 60 volunteers actively participated in making the event successful. Teachers and Non- Teaching Staff also participated with utmost zeal. The enthusiasm depicted, proved that it doesn't take superpowers to spread smiles.



Cleanliness Drive
(26th August 2015)

The Environment and Disaster Management wing flags off the year by organizing a Cleanliness Drive inside the college on 26th August' 2015. This Drive aimed at making the college campus cleaner and also awakening the conscience of the students to keep it clean throughout. Areas such as L.P, Chemistry Department, Botany Department, Cafeteria, Amphitheater etc. were cleaned. Volunteers requested the students not to spread litter around the campus. Around 100 volunteers actively participated in making this Drive successful. Other students were also inspired on seeing the efforts of the volunteers and pledged to keep their campus clean. The wing also appointed Cleanliness Captains who volunteered to help maintain a Clean and Green Hans Raj College.



Independence Day Celebrations
(14th August 2015)

NSS Hans Raj celebrated 68 years of our country’s independence on 14th August’2015. The event started off by a performance of our college’s Music Society ‘Swaranjali’. The Chief Guest for the programme was Mr. Gajendra Singh, DIG BSF. Full of patriotism, the Chief Guest hoisted the national flag along with Principal, Dr. Rama; NSS Convenor, Dr. Baljeet Kaur and NCC Convenor, Mr. Arvind Yadav. Later that day, NSS had the extreme privilege of having Mr. L K Advani and Ms. Pratibha Advani in our college. Mr. Virendra Singh, MP and Mr. Indra Mohan Kapahi, member of UGC and NDTF also graced the occasion. It was an honour to be the first college in DU where Ms. Pratibha Advani’s short film ‘Tiranga’ was screened. The College Auditorium was jam packed with students who had come to hear and catch a glimpse of the BJP stalwart. The celebration was such that it would remain etched in the hearts of all those who attended it, forever.



Orientation
(5th August 2015)

NSS Hans Raj hosted its Orientation for the freshers on Wednesday, 5th August’2015. Mrs. and Mr. Harit solicited to grace the occasion and came all the way from Paris, France. Mr. Harit has been practising Yoga since the age of 4 years and teaching since 1978. The President, Shridhar Singh introduced NSS and its wings to the audience. It was followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the Convenor, Dr. Baljeet Kaur; the Principal, Dr. Rama and the Chief Guests, Mrs. and Mr. Harit. The registration forms were also distributed at the end of the programme. The response from the students was overwhelming which eventually led to more than 600 students being inducted into the society.
