Surya Namaskar

As we mark the 75th year of Indian independence and rejoice it under Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, we at NSS Hansraj encouraged everyone to celebrate the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti by performing Surya Namaskar organized by the esteemed Ministry of Ayush, GoI on 14th January 2022 with the tagline ‘’Surya Namaskar for Vitality”. We witnessed our volunteers participating with great zest and zeal in the government initiative who shared their pictures and videos while performing the asanas with all nuances. The event concluded on a triumphant note and promising health benefits.



Winter Clothes and Blankets Donation Drive
(7th January, 2022)

Showcasing the virtue of philanthropy, NSS Hansraj successfully conducted a ‘Winter Clothes & Blankets’ donation drive on the morning of 7th January 2021 to provide warmth and comfort to the underprivileged alongside other people who are often ignored during the harsh winter months. These articles of clothing were distributed among the residents living near the college campus and the surrounding areas of Malka Ganj and Roop Nagar. The drive was indeed successful in attaining the goal of rendering the cosy gifts of kindness to the generally ignored.



Winter Clothes Donation Drive
(31st December, 2021 to 6th January, 2022)

NSS Hansraj organized a weeklong ‘Winter Clothes Donation Drive’ from 31st December 2021 to 6th January 2022. Under the same, volunteers were asked to visit their surrounding area and donate old or extra clothes like sweaters and even items like gloves and mufflers to save poor and needy from sheer cold. Our volunteers donated as much as possible and shared their geo-tagged pictures while making the donation and relieving the needy from these harsh times.



Gita Jayanti Mahotsav
(14th December, 2021)

Unnat Bharat Abhiyan and Vijnana Bharati jointly organised Gita Jayanti Mahotsav on 14th December 2021 at Dyal Singh College, University of Delhi to celebrate Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. Under the same, a seminar was held in hybrid mode which was broadcasted live on YouTube and Facebook. The esteemed speakers emphasised on the implementation of Gita's ideas and principles in our daily lives and how it can help in India's development. We at NSS Hansraj also encouraged our volunteers to attend the same and they partook enthusiastically, both physically and virtually.



Session on'Government Initiatives for Rural India'
(18th November, 2021)

NSS Hansraj organized a speaker session with the National Coordinator of UBA, Prof. Vivek Kumar on 18th November, 2021 on "Government Initiatives for Rural India and Citizen's Responsibility towards Rural People", wherein, the speaker emphasised the importance of government's flagship program, Unnat Bharat Abhiyan in uplifting the lives of rural people and enriching rural India and also laid down a framework as to how to go about conducting the UBA program successfully.



Joy of Giving Week: Day 7
(10th October, 2021)

NSS Hansraj conducted an interactive session on the last day of ‘Joy of Giving Week 2021’ on 10th October. Our core members, coordinators, and volunteers whimsically participated in fun activities and games entailing 'Fastest finger first', 'Guess the advertisement tag line', 'Sell a product' alongside jamming on songs and a team building session of story formation game. These enhanced the involvement of the volunteers and boosted their soft skills too. The alacrity with which our team interacted mesmerized everyone and ended the week on a positive and successful note. Prioritizing the holistic development and mutual upliftment of our team, we ensure to keep organizing such amazing events in the future.



Joy of Giving Week: Day 6
(9th October, 2021)

We at NSS Hansraj organized an event "A Closer Look to the Innocence" in which fifteen volunteers from NSS Hansraj visited Anukriti Special School on 9th October 2021 on the account of sixth day of 'Joy of Giving Week 2021'. The volunteers conducted various activities like singing, dancing, acting, chit games, cartoon screening etc. Certain art and craft activities were also conducted giving them full freedom to be creative and put their imagination into best use. Refreshments were distributed during and after activities and at the end, stationary and Horlicks packets were distributed upon concluding the event. The school staff appreciated everyone for their efforts and the visit fulfilled its aim of adding colours to the life of students. The ardent participation of volunteers reflected the sheer feeling of 'Service before Self' in them.



Joy of Giving Week: Day 5
(8th October, 2021)

We at NSS Hansraj by keeping in mind the aspirations of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan organized a session to talk over the ’Educational status in rural India and the role of NEP 2020 in its betterment’ on the account of ’Joy of Giving Week 2021’. The esteemed speaker for the session was Sh. Prem Prakash Meena, IAS 2018, AIR 102. He focused on the contemporary education system in India and imparting education at the micro-level. Having highlighted the issues faced by the students in rural areas, he also enlightened the participants about how rural upliftment paves a way to the overall progress of the nation. He also discussed the pros and cons of our present-day education system, collating it with that of other countries. He apprised the attendees of the NEP, guided us to upskill ourselves and to keep doing different things to yield better outcomes. The session was marked by active participation of the attendees and was indeed an enriching experience for all. It was followed by an intriguing Q/A round and ended on a high note after the President of NSS Hansraj extended a vote of thanks.



Clean Yamuna Campaign
(7th October, 2021)

NSS Hansraj got the golden opportunity to participate in the cleanliness drive and inauguration of Clean Yamuna Bank in the SouthEast district of Delhi. The campaign was flagged off by the honourable Chief Guest Mr. Rajendra Singh, popularly venerated as the 'Waterman of India'. More than a thousand volunteers were engaged in it from all across Delhi. They even volunteered in picking up the waste from the Yamuna river and its banks. Moreover, five zealous volunteers of NSS Hansraj came forward for this drive and contributed to fulfilling their responsibility towards the environment. The perpetual participation of NSS Hansraj in such events evince our endeavors to initiate positive changes in the environment and spread the word on such issues. NSS Hansraj under its Environment & Disaster Management and Health Wing takes initiatives at its own level to embrace the sanitation condition in the country by recognizing its unsaid duty towards preserving the environment.



Donation for Padhaku Kids
(7th October, 2021)

Since learning is quite hard when one is not in the pink of his or her health, a donation drive was organised under UBA for Padhaku kids belonging to Chandrawal village on 7th October at college in Yagyashala to ensure proper nutrition among them. Under this, packets of junior Horlicks were distributed to the underprivileged kids. The esteemed drive took place in the gracious presence of our Honorable Principal Dr. Rama Ma’am, Respected Director Dr. Mona Ma’am, UBA Convenor Dr. Monika Kaul Ma’am and our guest for the event, Mr. Sujay Goswami. They rendered gifts and other goodies to the earthly forms of god and had a joyous time with them.



Joy of Giving Week: Day 4
(7th October, 2021)

NSS Hansraj conducted an informative awareness session on blood donation on 7th October as a part of 'Joy of Giving Week 2021' to help instill among the youth the profound importance of the said supreme act of kindness. The speakers for the esteemed session were Mr. Sujay Goswami, the Founder & Chairman of Delhi Association of Voluntary Blood Donors, and Mr. Kanishk Yadav, a Senior Nursing Officer at AIIMS who is an active coordinator of blood donation and medical camps in Delhi & NCR. The eminent speakers enlightened students on the eligibility criteria for blood donation, things to keep in mind before and post donating blood, and gave some really useful insights on the importance of blood donation in this current era bearing in mind the Covid -19 concerns and vaccinations alongside bursting the rumours and myths associated with it. They successfully motivated and inspired the audience to donate blood whenever possible. Both the speakers were really generous and brought gifts for the coordinators. The informative and interactive session came to end with a fruitful Q/A round and a vote of thanks.



Joy of Giving Week: Day 3
(6th October, 2021)

We at NSS Hansraj commemorated the third day of ‘Joy of Giving Week 2021’ by visiting Shashiraj Foundation Old Age Care Home on 6th October 2021. In the pursuit, eleven volunteers accompanied by six coordinators rejoiced with around twenty old age home residents including old men, women and mentally challenged patients by conducting eclectic games such as passing the parcel followed by dancing to the beat of music and chanting songs. Residents also shared various stories, life experiences and curated alluring paper artefacts. Their serene aura and welcoming faces filled the hearts of our team with ever-lasting exuberance. We called it a day with cake ceremony where a small token of love in form of card was given to express gratitude. Vote of thanks was extended to all of them and the management there for their remarkable arrangements and valuable time.



Joy of Giving Week: Day 2
(5th October, 2021)

On the second day of 'Joy of Giving Week 2021', we at NSS Hansraj pledged to recommence our three signature initiatives, Wall of Kindness, Project Kalam, and Project Jugnu under 'Ek Nayi Shuruat'. On behalf of this, a contribution drive was held on 5th October 2021 wherein college students, teachers, and staff enthusiastically participated and contributed their bit by rendering out valuable donations to the Wall of Kindness. Furthermore, the team set up stalls for Project Jugnu and Project Kalam where eco-friendly pens alongside candles produced from recycled wax were put up for sale. The visitors to our stalls were appreciative of our efforts and made their purchases with keen delight. We were fortunate to receive their insightful and encouraging feedback which motivated us to keep up our sterling efforts. The entire price amount and donations received would be gifted to the women beneficiaries of our esteemed projects who have been hard hit by the pandemic and the needy out there respectively. Let's together continue to spread kindness in whatever little way possible!



Joy of Giving Week: Day 1
(4th October, 2021)

NSS Hansraj successfully organized a cleanliness drive on the 4th of October at Neighborhood Woof Timarpur Kennels as a part of 'Joy of Giving Week 2021'. Our zealous volunteers worked hard in ensuring that the entire place was disinfected and clean for our furry friends. Our volunteers also had a productive heartfelt discussion with the proprietor of the shelter as they all took a moment to appreciate the acumen and insights of how blessed we are with the diversity of fauna existing amidst us. They were also briefed on why the sterilization process is essential to keep the canine population under control. The rescue stories of some dogs were beyond motivating and our volunteers had a thrilling and delightful time as they played with the affectionate and friendly dogs.



NSS Alumni Meet
(24th September, 2021)

On the occasion of NSS Day which is celebrated on 24th September every year, NSS Hansraj organized a 'NSS Alumni Meet' where our treasured alumni virtually gathered to take a trip down the memory lane, look back at the beginnings and relive all the cherished memories. A number of playful activities like 'Guess the NSS event,' 'Guess the translated song' and 'Yaadon ki Chakri' were organized. The esteemed alumni shared heartening anecdotes while reminiscing golden memories. They also enlightened the volunteers about the history of NSS at Hansraj College, gave meaningful insights into the functioning of NSS in the offline mode and provided a perfect dose of motivation to push our limits and make NSS reach new heights.



Webinar: Road Safety Riding
(20th September, 2021)

We at NSS Hansraj had a webinar organized on ‘Road Safety Riding’ on 20th September 2021 by Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. so as to promulgate the significance of road safety to avoid the otherwise resultant jeopardy. The esteemed speaker Mr. Jatin Kataria highlighted the rules and safety measures that must be taken before riding a vehicle. He also illustrated the same with proper riding outfits and postures that help prevent any mishappening on the road. Furthermore, he taught road safety signs and urged everyone to adopt these measures. Moreover, examining the root cause of accidents, the speaker even suggested a few precautions and provided theoretical training for safer driving. In a nutshell, the session was interactive and served its purpose of spreading awareness about road safety riding. The insightful webinar came out to be productive for all the attendees and marked its end with a Q/A round.





Dengue and Cleanliness Awareness at Yamuna Khadar
(15th September, 2021)

With the objective of safeguarding the most vulnerable population of slum-dwellers from the disease, we at NSS organized a session on 'Dengue and Cleanliness Awareness' at a school in our adopted slum Yamuna Khadar on 15th September, 2021. In the session, more than 50 residents were made aware about the symptoms, preventive measures and home remedies for treating the disease. Also, the significance of various hygienic practices like washing hands, maintaining cleanliness at home, proper disposal of sanitary napkins and menstrual health was discussed with an interactive Q/A round in the end. To ensure the application of these practices, sanitary napkins and soaps were distributed among the dwellers at the end of the session. On the whole, the session marked huge success. We were glad to witness a change in the lives of the underprivileged people.





Nutrition Talk
(7th September, 2021)

Realizing the utmost need of inculcating good nutritional habits in today's generation, we at NSS Hansraj organized a Nutrition Talk on the account of Nutrition Week observed from 1st September to 7th September every year. The speaker for the session was Dr. Neerja Bhayana, a renowned naturopath and nutritionist. She paved a way for all the attendees to get on the right side of the battle by making them think differently about the way they eat and their approach towards food. She also enlightened the participants about the importance of eating a balanced diet. Furthermore, considering the ongoing pandemic, Dr. Neerja suggested some super-food to boost our immunity. The eminent speaker shared her own recipes too which were not only a treat to the eyes but also extremely healthy for the human body. The session was marked by spirited participation of the volunteers and was a productive experience for all. The intriguing session was a success and came to fruitful end with an interactive Q/A round.



Nutrition Week: Food Donation Drive
(6th September, 2021)

It is rightly said that giving is not just making a donation rather about making a difference. Keeping this in mind, NSS Hansraj successfully conducted a food donation drive near the metro station and roads of Kamla Nagar on 6th September 2021 on the account of Nutrition week, observed every year from 1st September to 7th September. The food donation drive was conducted especially for the children, taking into consideration this year's Nutrition Week's theme, 'Feeding smart right from the start'. Thereby, we distributed bananas and amul flavoured milk bottles to the children. It was surreal seeing magical smiles on the faces of innocent kinds. We can’t feed a hundred alone but can definitely feed them in unity.



Freedom Of Speech: Group Discussion
(14th August, 2021)

One of the fundamentals of the Constitution is the 'Freedom of Speech'. This very pillar is one of the core reasons to label a country as democratic or otherwise. However, people often exploit their rights and end up creating malice. On the felicitous occasion of Azaadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, we at NSS Hansraj organised a virtual group discussion on the theme ‘Freedom of Speech: An Overexercised or Underexercised Right?’ on 14th August 2021. The participants discussed the subjectivity, ideas and diverse aspects linked with Freedom of Speech as a right. A wide range of views, examples and opinions were passionately discussed, concluding that it is up to us to uphold the liberty granted by the Indian Constitution.



Friendship Day: Interactive Session
(1st August, 2021)

True friendship is like sound health; the value of it is seldom known until it be lost. Many ideas grow better when transplanted into another mind than the one where they sprang up. It is correctly said that alone we can do so little; together we can do so much. On this note, NSS Hansraj organized an hour long interactive session on 1st August ,2021 on the account of Friendship Day. Exciting and playful activities were conducted for the volunteers with a pinch of gossips. Volunteers enthusiastically participated in games like 'Who is the ultimate Movie Buff', 'Treasure in your Home' and 'Sawalo ka Pahiya'. Smiles and laughters were also shared and memories of lifetime were made.



Yamuna Khadar: Food Donation Drive
(24th July, 2021)

The ongoing pandemic has had horrendous consequences. Whole of the world is suffering. However, the ‘have nots’ are the worst hit. Hunger and uncertainty have clutched the deprived section, rendering them hopeless. With the objective of putting a smile on these grim faces and commemorating the completion of 4 years of Project Parvarish, we at NSS Hansraj organised a Food Donation Drive at Yamuna Khadar on 24th July, 2021. Our volunteers assembled near about 150 residents and offered them food. The residents were also encouraged to sing and dance and play games. It felt wonderful to see them enjoy, oblivious of worries.



Blue Heart Campaign Against Human Trafficking
(30th July to 31st July, 2021)

On account of World Day against Trafficking in persons, we at NSS Hansraj organised "Blue Heart Campaign" from 30th-31st July against Human trafficking which was started by UNODC in 2009. We encouraged all the volunteers to showcase their solidarity with the victims of human trafficking and increasing their visibility by clicking their pictures with a blue heart on their hand or by drawing illustrations of the same. We were ecstatic to witness surfeit of participations by volunteers which exhibited their active concern and responsibility for sufferings of fellow human beings.



Workshop: Art of Mind Control
(16th July, 2021)

The mind has a powerful way of attracting things that are in harmony with it, good and bad. In this age of technology, the harmony of our minds is consistently violated as there is constant access to vast amounts of information. Taking cognizance of this, we at NSS Hansraj organised a workshop on " The Art of Mind Control" on 16th July. The speaker for the session was renowned Life coach and Youth Mentor Pandava Sakha Deva. He enlightened the attendees on the insurmountable power of the mind and the nuances linked with thoughts and reasons why the mind goes astray in this rat race of life. The attendees were further taught the importance of controlling one's mind, and methods to overcome daily distractions.There were also certain small activities held in between the workshop for effective understanding of the root causes of distractions.The workshop saw enthusiastic participation from the volunteers.



Webinar: Making Home a Safe Space, Free From Child Sexual Abuse
(10th July, 2021)

A raging pandemic has forced us all into the safety of our homes. But the love and protection children expect in their homes can often be eroded by violence and abuse. The problems that a child faces as a victim of sexual abuse are undeniably damaging and crippling. In order to shed more light on this topic, we at NSS Hansraj organised a webinar on 10 July, 2021. It spiralled around the sensitive ideas of Child Sexual Abuse, and volunteers were guided by Dr. Aditi, a lead trainer at Sakshi NGO. The webinar was aided by documentaries, videos and discussions that gave an insight into the fearful mindset of victims and the psychological and physical effects of such an abuse along with effective points on how to identify and curb it as a responsible and able 'Rakshin'. The webinar was deeply moving and profound and ignited a drive in everyone to ensure that no child be subjected to this atrocity.



Van Mahotsav
(1st July to 7th July, 2021)

Van Mahotsav, also known as forest festival is an annual tree planting festival celebrated in the first week of July to disseminate awareness about the significance of forest conservation. In the wake of growing malpractices against the environment, NSS Hansraj observed the said occasion for a week from 1st July to 7th July, 2021 to celebrate the undeniable importance of trees. Worried about the upswing trend of deforestation, the zealous volunteers at NSS Hansraj planted tree saplings at their homes and nearby areas, thereby abiding by their moral duty towards environmental protection and its development. They captured the moments while planting saplings which were shared on our social media handles with the only motive to encourage others to plant trees and join hands in doing their bit towards maintaining ecological balance on earth.



Online Session: Yoga for Mental Health
(21th June, 2021)

On the especial occasion of 'International Yoga Day’, we at NSS Hansraj held an interactive session, addressed by Yoga Acharya Navin Kumar and Mrs. Manju Mehta, co-founders of 'Sivapta Wellness Centre'. The speakers enlightened all the participants on the importance of Yoga for stable mental health. They discussed the important Yoga Asanas which help us in attaining a healthy mental environment. By the end of the session, partakers learned about the benefits of meditation and how it naturally cures depression, stress and anxiety. Those who meditate on a regular basis are less stressed, healthier and are found to adopt a more positively oriented perception about life. The session came to a fruitful end with a vote of thanks to the speakers and the audience. It was marked by spirited participation of the volunteers and was a refreshing as well as productive experience for all.



Yoga Session with Padhaku Kids
(20th June, 2021)

We at NSS Hansraj truly recognize the importance of adopting Yoga as an active lifestyle. From physical fitness to respiratory healing, it is certainly intertwined with a healthy way of living. In congruence with the same, the entire team of coordinators at NSS Hansraj organized a Yoga session with Padhaku kids on 20th June, 2021. They performed 'Yoga Asanas' and the kids were encouraged to emulate the same. With each asana demonstrated, the benefits were also shared. This was followed by a short interactive session between the coordinators and kids. On the whole, the session turned out to be a great success. It was delightful to witness kids performing yoga asanas with great curiosity and zeal.
